Noir

Lo stile “Noir” è una variante del genere letterario poliziesco,“hard-boiled”, nato negli Stati Uniti nei anni venti del ‘900.
Esistono diverse definizioni che provano a delineare le caratteristiche che differenziano il noir dal genere principale, infatti, alcuni ritengono possibile identificare delle differenze significative tra il primo, più incentrato sulla costruzione della suspense, e il secondo, che dà più spazio alla personalità del detective e all’azione.
Tuttavia in entrambi troviamo temi ricorrenti come storie cupe e violente, i dilemmi esistenziali, il senso di ambiguità e di angoscia che pervade i protagonisti, descrivendoci lo stato d’animo e la realtà in cui vivono.

Attraverso queste foto cerco di raccontarvi una storia.

Una storia… dove belle donne, alcol e pallottole la fanno da padrone, come nei film americani di vecchia data.

Un giallo, dal finale aperto utilizzando contrasti di luci tra bianco e nero, rappresentando il conflitto tra il Bene e il Male, inserendo alcuni classici personaggi di quelle storie come il detective privato, antieroe, fuori dagli schemi coi suoi problemi esistenziali e la dark lady, donna seduttiva e pericolosa, con un pizzico di poliziesco all’italiana…

Cercando un’amalgama piuttosto variegata che farebbe impazzire qualsiasi regista, o scrittore, del genere… ma questa è un’altra storia.






NOIR (English version)

“Noir” style is a variation of the “hard-boiled” detective novel, born in the USA in 1920s.
There are different definitions trying to outline the characteristics that differentiate noir from the main genre, indeed, some people think it is possible to identify significant differences between the former, more focused on building the suspense, and the latter, which gives more space to the detective’s personality and action.
Nevertheless, we can find recurring themes in both genres, such as dark and violent stories, existential dilemmas, the feeling of ambiguity and anguish that invade the protagonists, describing us their mood and the reality they live in.

I’m trying to tell you a story through these photographs.

A story… in which beautiful women, alcohol and bullets are predominant, like in the old American movies.

An open-ended detective story, using the contrast of lights between black and white, representing the conflict between Good and Evil, putting in some classical characters of that stories, such as the private detective antihero, outside the box with his existential problems and the dark lady, a seductive and dangerous woman, with a touch of Italian crime style…

Looking for a quiet varied combination that would make any director or writer of this genre go crazy… but that’s another story.
